Getting Help

This page covers the most common causes of Stagehand not working, and how to reach us when they don’t cover your case.

“My source list is empty” or “the hotkey doesn’t work”

Almost always a permissions issue:

  • Screen Recording not granted → the source list will be empty or capture will silently fail. Check Settings → General → Permissions for a granted/not-granted status, with a one-click Grant button that deep-links straight to the right System Settings pane.
  • Jump to Source (⌘⇧F) not landing on the exact window → that’s expected. It brings your source app to the front but can’t target one specific window among several open ones — Stagehand doesn’t request Accessibility permission for this.

If Settings shows both as granted but capture still isn’t working, check the last ScreenCaptureKit error shown in that same section. It’s also copied into the diagnostics blob below.

Sending feedback, a bug, or a feature request

Use the native feedback form (reachable from the app menu → Send Feedback, Settings → General, or the menu bar’s right-click menu). Pick a type (💬 Feedback, 🐞 Bug, ✨ Feature), write a title and description, and optionally leave an email if you want a reply (it’s remembered for next time so you don’t have to retype it).

Attaching diagnostics

Toggle “include diagnostics” in the feedback form to attach a snapshot: app version/build, macOS version, permission states, active source, display/window counts, and the last ScreenCaptureKit error. If you’d rather grab that information yourself (for a support thread, say), there’s a standalone “Copy diagnostics to clipboard” button in Settings → General that doesn’t require opening the feedback form.
