Making It Yours

Stagehand’s defaults work fine out of the box, but a few settings are worth knowing about so the app fits into how you actually work, rather than the other way around.

General settings

Open Settings with ⌘,, or from the menu bar.

• Launch at login: have Stagehand ready before you even open your conferencing app.
• Show in menu bar: turn the status item off to rely solely on the Switchboard and hotkeys.
• Sound effects: a short confirmation sound plays when you toggle the curtain (Funk on drop, Hero on raise). Turn it off to toggle silently.
• Dark mode: follow the system, or force light or dark regardless of your Mac’s setting.
• Language: English, German, French, Spanish, or Italian, applied across the Switchboard, Settings, menu items, and notifications.

Beyond quick curtain control, the menu bar icon doubles as a passive status signal: it tints yellow, then red, if your Mac comes under thermal pressure. That’s a heads-up that capture quality may be getting throttled to keep things running smoothly, before you notice it in the stream itself.
